The Bible says that when we make the Lord our hope and confidence, we are like “trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water” (Jer. 17:8 NLT). Such trees aren’t bothered by drought because their roots go deep. They’re a stabilizing force. God wants Christians to be like those trees—stabilizing people and things around them.
To know God’s heart—His will and intentions—our roots must run deep. They must be watered daily by His words, the Holy Spirit, and prayer. When our roots are firmly planted like that, we won’t worry. And we won’t be disturbed by circumstances. Instead, we’ll keep producing the good fruit of the Spirit. That will enable us to be a steadying force for those around us and to successfully walk out God’s plan for our lives.
