What Legacy Are You Leaving?

What kind of legacy are you leaving for the next generation? What kind of “history book” are you writing? You see, we’re all writing our own history book—a history of our lives. And we’re also leaving a legacy that someone else is going to follow. The kind of legacy we leave is vitally important, because that’s how we make our contribution to the world!

Do you realize all the things that you’re handing down to your children and those around you? Everything you are and possess today is part of your legacy. How do you want others to remember you? Do you want to be remembered as intelligent, well-educated, welldressed, or well-organized? The real measure of a person’s success lies in the lives that are changed because of his or her influence.

What are some of the things we want to pass on to the next generation? First, we need to leave them a legacy of a life committed to God. Judges 2:10 (NKJV) says, “When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the Lord . . . .”

If we don’t leave a godly legacy, the next generation isn’t going to know the Lord!

Second, we must teach our children to live a life of honor and to respect their elders. Third, we must live a life of character. We must be honest and do what is right. We must be forgiving, be people of our word, and place others first. And fourth, we must leave a legacy of a life of faith in God.

What are you recording in your “history book” today? Are you leaving a legacy that will lead others down the right path? If you’re not satisfied with what you’ve written in the past, you can start writing a new legacy today! God has greater things for you to accomplish. He has a greater history book for you to write. May it be said in your history book that you have made a difference in someone else’s life!
