A Time to Celebrate

Christmas By Kenneth W. Hagin

The lights, the Christmas carols, and the handsomely wrapped gifts are all part of the sights and sounds of Christmas. But is that what Christmas is really all about?

To some, Christmas is the shepherds, the magi with their camels, and the angels singing “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men” (Luke 2:14). But we must not allow the sights and sounds of the season to take away from the true meaning of Christmas!

The birth of Jesus Christ is the real reason for the season. But the Babe in the manger is just the beginning of the story. I want you to picture the Savior as He walks the dusty roads of Judea. Sail with Him as He crosses the storm-tossed Sea of Galilee. Go with Him to Capernaum and see Him perform miracles there.

See Him on the outskirts of Jericho where blind Bartimaeus shivers in darkness, clutching his dirty beggar’s rags. The blind man cries out, “ ‘Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!’ ” (Mark 10:47 NKJV) and his sightless eyes are opened!

Walk with the Lord into the garden of Gethsemane and hear Him say, “. . . If it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” (Matt. 26:39). See Jesus drink the cup of sin, sickness, and degradation as He is nailed to the cross. Hear Him say with His last breath, “. . . It is finished . . .” (John 19:30).

No more will the Holy of Holies be found in a building made of mortar and stone. Now it will be found in the heart of every human being who says, “I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.”

This month as we celebrate Jesus’ birth, let us remember that He lived and died for one purpose—to redeem men and women, boys and girls, from the devil’s tyranny. As we commemorate our Savior’s birth, let us also celebrate His life, death, and resurrection . . . and honor the Lord for giving His life so that mankind could be set free!
