What’s Holding You Back?

What's Holding You Back?By Kenneth W. Hagin

Have you tried for years to follow God’s plan for your life only to find something always holding you back? With God’s power working mightily on your behalf, you can turn impossibilities into possibilities and begin to press beyond the limits!

We are all familiar with limits. In life, there are all kinds of limits and limitations. But wherever there are limitations, there will always be those who will press beyond those limits for God!

In the natural, mankind has pressed beyond once-known limits in many areas: flight, space travel, technology, and so forth. In the area of communication, for example, there was speech and then there was writing. Later in history came the telegraph, the telephone, television, various kinds of satellite and radio technology, and now, we even have the Internet. We have pressed beyond the limits of what was imagined possible.

You may be old enough to remember the television program “Flash Gordon.” People thought those kinds of futuristic shows were mere fantasy. They’re not fantasy anymore!

Mankind has pressed beyond natural limits and broken all kinds of barriers. And we’ve not seen the end of what man can do!

The same is true in the spiritual realm. And that’s what I want to talk to you about—pressing beyond limits in our spiritual life—doing the impossible when it comes to rising above the challenges in our daily Christian walk.

Abraham is one biblical example of someone who pressed beyond the limits.

ROMANS 4:19–21 (NKJV)
19 And not being weak in faith, he
[Abraham] did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.
20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,
21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.

Abraham did not consider his body; instead, he considered God’s promise. Abraham did not consider the limitations imposed on him because of his human body. He did not look at or think about the limitations. He focused his attention on what God had promised.

The limitations of Abraham’s body said, “It’s not possible.” But God said, “It’s possible!” Abraham chose to believe God instead of his body.

Many consider their limitations and say to God, for example, “I’m too old to do such-and-such.” If Abraham had considered his natural limitations, he, too, would have said, “It’s not possible, God. I’m too old.” But he didn’t consider the limitations of his body—He considered the limitlessness of God!

God wants you to look beyond your limitations and focus on His promises. Whatever He has promised, you can have—as long as you press beyond the limits. Even if the limits say, “You can’t,” when you press beyond the limits, you can!
