Seed Thoughts

Seed Thoughts//Lynette Hagin

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail .” -Isaiah 58:11 (NIV)

The things we hear over and over again are what automatically come to us when we need to know that information. For instance, my third grade teacher put such an emphasis on the multiplication tables that someone can call out numbers such as “eight times nine” and my immediate response is “72.” I received that knowledge 57 years ago, yet it is still deeply embedded in my memory. It is there because I practiced those multiplication tables so much and because I have continued using that knowledge each day. Therefore those math formulas have become an automatic response in my life when I need them.

It is important that we apply the same principles in our spiritual life. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Every time I read that verse or hear it quoted, I hear my father-in-law’s voice ringing in my ears: “You must keep on hearing and hearing and hearing the Word of God to keep your faith active.” He would emphasize hearing the Word over and over again. So these thoughts come to me continually: I must keep my faith active to receive what I need in life. And my faith is kept active by hearing the Word of God.

As you have read in many of the articles in this issue of The Word of Faith, for us to receive healing in our bodies we must exercise our faith and reach out to lay hold on what God has already promised us in His Word. Jesus Christ bore stripes on his back for our healing; we must accept it, confess it, and receive it.

Another phrase that my father-in-law used was, “One way—not the only way—to receive healing is by the laying on of hands.” Then he would preach about the laying on of hands for healing. However, he would also mention other methods of receiving healing. Oftentimes he would give life examples to illustrate his point.

I want to give you an example of healing in my life. Many years ago as I carried a load of laundry down the stairs in our home, an item fell out of my hand. I reached down to pick it up, lost my balance, and fell down the stairs. As I reached the bottom, I heard something crack. I thought that I had broken a bone in my pelvis. The pain was excruciating.

A doctor’s examination revealed that I had fractured my tailbone. The doctor said nothing could be done medically and many people with this injury experienced severe pain for the rest of their lives. The doctor explained that often the bone healed in the wrong position, lying against nerves and causing constant pain. Of course, I recognized the facts of my condition. But, thank God, because I had heard the Word over and over again, I was armed with its greater facts. First Peter 2:24 says, “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” I was thankful that I had options other than the doctor’s report.

I knew that Jesus had already taken the stripes on His back for my healing. My part was to believe it, confess it, and receive that healing. My husband and I prayed and commanded that bone to heal properly and perfectly, with no permanent side effects.

Did I receive my manifestation immediately? No. But I knew that healing was mine.

One day as I cried from the intense pain, my husband told me something that I have practiced whenever I have needed physical healing. He said, “Honey, every time you feel that pain, confess this: ‘Thank You, Father, that the healing power of God is working in my body to effect a healing and a cure.’ ” I began to confess that over and over again. Each time the pain came, I made that confession. Little by little the pain lessened. By the end of the month, I suddenly realized that I had no pain. I knew in my spirit that the healing was complete, but I wanted it confirmed by the doctor. During a scheduled follow-up examination, he was amazed. He said, “Your tailbone is in perfect position and has healed perfectly.” That was 36 years ago, and I have never experienced pain again from that accident.

I thank God for the instant manifestations. However, do not throw away your confidence in the healing power of God if you do not receive one. Continue to confess, as I did, “Thank You, Father, that the healing power of God is working in my body to effect a healing and a cure.”
