You Can’t Hold Back the Dawn!

What does the celebration of Easter mean to you and me today? For many people, it’s merely a time to hunt Easter eggs and eat candy—a time to get together with family and friends. But for us as Christians, it represents the dawning of a new day for all mankind through the resurrection of Jesus Christ!

Before His crucifixion, Jesus agonized in the Garden of Gethsemane. “O my Father,” He prayed, “if it be possible, let this cup pass from me” (Matt. 26:39). But God’s only begotten Son accepted that cup and went on to Calvary’s hill and shed His blood. The spotless Lamb of God took upon Himself the sins of the world. He was made to be sin (2 Cor. 5:21), and He was judged so that we would not have to be judged.

As I look out across the world today, the magnitude of stress is one of the most disturbing things I see. People are stressed out with all kinds of circumstances involving their children, their jobs and businesses, and their relationships. Many are dealing with just the nitty-gritty of living, and they are stressed out about it.

It was just another volleyball practice for Kara Weitz. She had done it hundreds of times before. Being a senior in high school and having played volleyball since the fourth grade, she was used to the drills, pep talks, and other ins and outs of a typical practice. But October 1, 2010, turned out not to be a typical practice.

“It all began with a monkey bite,” Sharon jokingly laughs. “I was about 8 years old. A missionary came to speak at our church, and he brought along a monkey. The preacher’s kid was teasing it. The monkey grabbed my hand and chomped down on my thumb. I’ve often joked that I must have gotten infected with missions, because now I’m a missionary.”

Forget About Yourself...

It’s easy to get caught up in the cares of life. There are bills to pay. Unexpected expenses to take care of. The cost of living is rising. And a shadow of uncertainty hangs over the economy.
